Does my paper seem logical? Does it have clarity with a logical ideas and experiences?
Researching and understanding the importance of a bachelors degree seemed pointless at first, but when I dug deeper and got feedback from my peers, the idea of requiring existing nurses with an associates to go back to school seemed to be a dispute. Cincinnati Children's hospital was the first hospital that came to mind when i decided to write about this topic. Last year I moved back to Florida from Ohio where they had hiring magnets. Cincy children's and many other health care facilities are no longer hiring nurses with any degree less than that of a bachelors. Their applications are not even considered. This is going to become an epidemic before too long. For many logical reasons hospitals and universities are doing away with diploma nurses and associates degrees and leaning more towards higher education. Many universities, such as South, are offering master degree programs in health care management, nurse practitioner and physician assistant.
Wow that's pretty crazy that they only hire nurses with bachelor's degrees. It seems like that's the way the world in general is moving, if you don't have higher education they won't even give you a chance.
ReplyDeleteI also heard from some nurses in this area that they are not hiring unless you have a Bachelors Degree, and if you were already in the field working you had to go back to school and obtain one. That is when I decided to change programs and get a Bachelors degree. Good topic!
ReplyDeleteI think that the experience gained in the field should count for something. Forcing employed nurses to amp up their knowledge by going back to school and obtaining a higher degree than what they were hired with seems unfair. Going back to school as an adult learner is a lot harder than it is for a traditional student. If an associates degree was good enough to get the job it should still be to keep it.

ReplyDeleteIt basically states nurses are giving TED talks, publishing scientific research, developing mobile medical applications, and actively addressing health care policy. Its amazing how much you learn about healthcare and how much it has advanced just since the early 1990's.

DeleteGreat post and it is so true, pretty soon this would be happening, hospitals are going to want nurses with bachelors or masters, and unfortunately associates degree not going to be considered.
